Fall is one of my absolute favorite seasons.
The cooler weather, the changing leaves, cozy afternoons, and all those little things that make autumn feel special.
And it’s also such a fun time to encourage kids to get creative!
Today I’m sharing a free fall story activity that you can use with your kids during the autumn months.
It’s a simple way to encourage imagination, storytelling, and a little writing practice.
Free Printable Fall Story Activity
This fall-themed activity is a fun addition to your autumn learning plans.

Depending on your child’s age and writing ability, you can use this activity in a few different ways.
Older children may enjoy working independently to create their story.
Younger children can share their ideas out loud while you help them write.
And if your child is just beginning to explore storytelling, you can work together to come up with ideas.
The important thing is to make the activity enjoyable.
How to Encourage Creative Storytelling
Sometimes all a child needs is a little encouragement to get their imagination going.
If they’re having trouble getting started, try asking a few questions.
- Where does your story take place?
- Who is the main character?
- What happens on a fall afternoon?
- Is there a problem your character needs to solve?
- How does your story end?
You can also talk about things your children love about fall.
Maybe it’s jumping in leaves, visiting a pumpkin patch, or spending time outdoors.
Those little experiences can turn into wonderful story ideas.
Make a Cozy Fall Writing Afternoon
Want to make this activity a little extra special?
Set up a cozy spot with pencils, crayons, and a warm drink.
Let your child work on their story, then ask if they’d like to read it aloud.
You can even save their finished stories in a folder.
I love the idea of looking back at the stories children created when they were little.
