I have a confession to make.
When my oldest daughter was little, I was absolutely, positively NOT going to do Elf on the Shelf.
Nope. Not happening.
I already had enough to remember during December. Between Christmas shopping, wrapping presents, baking cookies, and trying to keep the house from looking like a tornado had hit it, the last thing I needed was a tiny elf requiring my attention every single night.
And then my daughter’s cousin came over.
She started talking about her Elf on the Shelf, and suddenly my daughter wanted one too.
So, like any mature, responsible grown woman, I immediately succumbed to peer pressure.
There was just one problem.
I had waited so long that finding an actual Elf on the Shelf was practically impossible.
Enter Blizzard.
Blizzard was a little green cloth elf who looked nothing like the traditional red Elf on the Shelf. But he was available, and at that point, beggars couldn’t be choosers.
The following year, Snowflake arrived. She was our official little red Elf on the Shelf, and eventually a reindeer joined the Christmas shenanigans too.

Apparently, elves have questionable nutritional habits.

This one is a little mischievous.
We placed Snowflake next to a framed family picture that had been decorated with silly mustaches and funny faces.
Mom tip: Use a removable clear sheet over the photo rather than drawing directly on the picture or frame.

11. Make a Toothpaste Smile
Have your elf leave a smiley face in the bathroom sink using toothpaste.
Snowflake was caught beside the toothpaste tube and her masterpiece.

One of our elves apparently discovered that the floor was lava.
