Simple Fish Paper Plate Craft

Spread the love

One of my favorite ways to get creative with my kids is through crafts. I know not every parent loves the mess. The glitter, the paint, the glue—it can be overwhelming and a bit much, especially when you have multiple children. However, I try my best to embrace the crafting stage because these kids are grown before you know it. Then, the days of fun crafting will be behind me. I will show you how to make this simple and fun fish paper plate craft today.

Why Are Paper Plate Crafts the Best?

If you are imaginative and creative, you will find that you can make a craft out of almost any type of material. Having a closet full of open-ended crafting supplies has come in handy a time or two. Of course, one of my favorite materials to make crafts out of is the simple and versatile paper plate.

You can buy around 60 paper plates at Dollar Tree for less than two dollars. These paper plate crafts are also pretty cheap to make. Of course, I find most of our crafting supplies at Dollar Tree anyway!

Creating a craft with a paper plate can give your child plenty of open-ended opportunities. It also encourages plenty. So, if you are on the fence about breaking those crafting supplies out, here are some great reasons why you should:

  • Provides an outlet for creative expression
  • Work on fine motor skills
  • Sensory exploration
  • Builds confidence
  • Provides children with opportunities for developing problem-solving skills
  • It gives parents and children a chance to bond
  • Encourages patience
  • Introduction to art and different techniques
  • Gives a chance for kids to break away from the screens
  • Teaches teamwork
  • Ignites curiosity
  • It gives a chance for hands-on learning
  • Works on improving focus
  • Boosts imagination
  • Gives kids a chance to work on language development
  • Encourages embracing imperfection and risk-taking
  • Create fun memories
  • Crafting is affordable for anyone
  • Teaches self-reliance
  • Encourages children to learn how to clean up after themselves
  • Judgement free zone gives kids a chance to experiment
  • Parents have fun, too!

How to Puth the Fish Craft Together

Now comes the fun part! Here is how to assemble this simple yet fun and adorable fish craft.

To make the fish, the first step is to paint the entire inside of the paper plate blue. Allow the paint to dry; this shouldn’t take very long. While you wait, cut out a top and back fin from the cardstock or index card. Paint it blue. (See picture for inspiration.)

Now, cut out the fish mouth and use the leftover paper plate material for the bottom fins. We went with a surprised-looking fish, but you can really make any face you’d like.

Glue the fins into the correct places once the fish is dry. Last, glue a googly eye on the fish. Now, you have a simple and fun fish craft!
