S Is for Snowman!
When little ones are learning their letters, it can be helpful to connect each letter to something they already recognize.
And during winter, what better word to use for the letter S than snowman?
For this activity, we turned a large letter S into a snowman by adding a hat, scarf, carrot nose, buttons, and a happy snowman face.
The finished craft is adorable, and kids can use their imaginations to decorate their snowman however they want.
This is also a fun craft to add to your winter preschool theme or alphabet learning activities.
Supplies Needed for This Snowman Letter Craft
You only need a few supplies to make your very own Letter S Snowman.
- Large printable letter S template
- White paper
- Construction paper for the background
- Snowman hat, scarf, nose, and button templates
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Glue
You can use whatever colors you have on hand.
We used a purple background for our snowman, but blue, black, or any other color would look just as cute!
How to Make a Letter S Snowman Craft
Step 1: Print and Color Your Snowman Pieces
First, print your large letter S and the snowman accessories.
Let your child color the hat, scarf, carrot nose, and buttons.
This is a great opportunity to let them be creative!
Maybe they want a red and green scarf, a rainbow hat, or even a purple snowman nose.
There really isn’t a wrong way to decorate a snowman.
Step 2: Cut Out the Pieces
Next, carefully cut out the letter S and all the snowman pieces.
Younger children may need a little help with this step, especially when cutting around the scarf and hat.
Older preschoolers can practice cutting with child-safe scissors.
Step 3: Glue the Letter S to Construction Paper
Choose a piece of construction paper for the background.
Glue your large letter S onto the paper, making sure to leave enough room for the snowman’s accessories.
Step 4: Turn Your Letter S Into a Snowman
Now comes the fun part!
Glue the snowman’s hat toward the top of the letter S.
Add the carrot nose and little coal eyes and smile.
Next, glue the scarf across the middle of the letter.
Finally, add the buttons to the bottom portion of the S.
Your letter S is starting to look like a snowman!

Once everything is glued into place, give your snowman a little time to dry.
