Why Paper Plate Crafts are Perfect for Toddlers and Preschoolers
We love paper plate crafts in our house! There are so many open ended and creative ways to create with paper plates. Honestly, if you can dream it up, you can probably create it with a paper plate and a handful of crafting items.
For this reason, paper plate crafts are the perfect crafting project for young kids. Whether you want to make a moon, rainbow, turtle, or lion, you can create it with a paper plate. Grab glitter, paper scraps, sequins, markers, or anything else you out of your crafting closet, set up a tray and let your little ones get to work.
One of my favorite ways to give my children a creative outlet is by setting up an invitation to create tray. If you have never heard of one, it’s pretty simple. Basically, grab any tray, give your child several open-ended crafting materials, and let them get to work. This can also be done with play doh. You can always make a theme, like birthday party, butterfly, or winter. Or you can just provide your kids with the materials and see what their little minds come up with.

How to Put Together the Butterfly Paper Plate Craft

Now it is time to put together this Butterfly paper plate craft!
The first thing you will do is decorate the paper plate however you would like. You can always cut it in half first and decorate using two separate pieces. The first thing I did was color the whole paper plate and then cut down the middle. Of course, if your child is very heavy handed with the glue and other materials, cutting into two may be a good idea.
Next, glue the two pieces together as pictured above. Then glue the popsicle stick on top of the paper plates. If you are using Elmers glue, this will take a little bit to dry, because of the curve of the paper plate. Be sure to really push down so the pieces stick together.
Wait for the glue to dry.
Then draw a face onto the popsicle stick and glue or tape the antennae behind the popsicle stick.
Now, you have a beautiful and fun butterfly craft just in time for spring!
