Simple Thankful Turkey Craft Kids Love
Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Which means crafts, crafts, and more crafts for my kids. We love to make simple things that we can keep for years to come. We also like to make crafts that remind us exactly why we should be thankful! This simple thankful turkey craft is one of those activities we love to do every year.
This is a craft kids of all ages can make and it’s something you can do year after year. It’s a great way to instill gratefulness in your children. You can also see how their responses change every year.
Items You Need for This Craft
If you are ready to put together this simple thankful turkey craft, you only need to gather a few items.
- Paper
- Markers
- Pen or pencil
- Brown paint
- Your child’s hand
- Paint brush
How to Put Together this Simple Thankful Turkey Craft
Now onto the fun part! The first thing you should do is paint your paper plate brown. It is easier to paint the outside of the paper plate. This is so the hands stick better on the outside.
While the plate is drying, go ahead and trace your child’s hand. You can trace as many hands as you would like, these will be our “feathers.” We ended up using six hands.
Next, cut the paper hands out. If your child is old enough, they can do this step on their own. Afterwards, your child can color the hands whatever colors they want to represent the turkey’s feathers.
Side note: This step also works well with construction paper, so you can cut out the need to color the hands all together. We did not have any construction paper left, so we resorted to the next best thing.
After the hands are ready, have your child write something they are thankful for on each hand. Then glue the hand to the back of the turkey once the paper plate is dry!
After your turkey’s body is assembled, draw a face.
I am all about simplicity in our home and homeschool. Crafts do not have to be fancy in order to be fun. You can adapt this craft to fit your needs anyway you have to.
More Fall Activities to Try
Crafts and activities are our things around here. If you want to some more fall activity ideas to go along with this turkey craft, take a look below.
Fall Sensory Bin for Toddlers
Sensory bins are some of our favorite ways to play. They are adaptable and kids can spend a long time playing and using their imagination. To put together this sensory bin for fall, I first dyed rice in “fallish” colors. Then I added fall like items I found from the Dollar Tree. Miss L wanted to add in her animals. She had a blast!
Fall Picture Frame Activity
This fall picture frame activity was a spur of the moment type thing. I saw these wooden strips at the Dollar Tree and thought man they would make a picture frame. Then I grabbed several items fall type items from the Dollar Tree as well and let my kids create their own Fall pictures inside the frames.
They had such a fun time with this activity. Below are a few pictures of their creations.
Thanksgiving Turkey Puff Ball Sorter
This activity was simple to make, and Miss L loved this as a toddler. All you have to do is clean an old water bottle and draw a turkey face on it. Don’t forget the gobble and the nose! Then draw and cut out the feathers and color. Glue or tape the feather to the bottle. Give your child a bowl of puff balls and let them practice those fine motor skills! Of course, puff balls can be a choking hazard so be sure to supervise your child while they are playing.
