Hot Chocolate Mug Paper Plate Craft

Today, I am going to show you how to put together this hot chocolate mug craft. It’s the Christmas season! I don’t know about you, but this is one of my favorite seasons of the year. Of course, I love anything that is magical, and summer is my favorite season. However, the pure magic of Christmas is still so beautiful. No matter what stress you are going through during the year. No matter what, the spirit of Christmas can put anyone in a joyous mood.

In order to celebrate, I am going to do a “25 days of Christmas.” Every day for the next 25 days, I will be sharing a fun and simple craft that you can do with your kids. Additionally, I will be sharing a Christmas themed freebie. In a few days, I will have a hub of sorts, where all of these crafts and freebies will be compiled into one post. That way you don’t have to continue trying to find all the Christmas posts on their own. Everything will be together.

Why Paper Plates?

Paper plate crafts are some of my favorite crafts to do with kids. This is for several reasons. For starters, paper plates are pretty cheap, especially if you get them at the Dollar Tree. Additionally, kids of all ages love these types of crafts. Lastly, but most importantly, there are so many different ideas you can do with paper plates, but these ideas are almost always simple and easy. Even the littles can put together these paper plate crafts, with a little help of course. If you love paper plate crafts as much as I do, check out my two most popular ones.

  • Rainbow Paper Plate Craft
  • Paper Plate Moon Craft.

So, during the 25 days of Christmas challenge, you will be seeing a few paper crafts, I can’t resist! Of course, there will be a whole host of other ideas as well. Most of them, completely simple and easy to put together. Now, let’s get started on the Hot Chocolate Mug Craft for kids.

The Materials You Need for the Hot Chocolate Mug Craft for Kids

This craft is so easy to put together, and chances are you may have the materials on hand. Before you get started, gather the following items.

  • Paper plate
  • Paint brush
  • Blue paint
  • Brown paint
  • Blue construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Cotton balls (not pictured.)

I used blue for the “outer” part of my mug. However, you can really make your mug any color you would like. Additionally, a fun option is to add sparkles, gems, glitter, or stickers to decorate the outside of the mug after it dries.

Now comes the fun part. The first thing you will want to do is paint your mug. First paint the middle of the paper plate brown, to look like hot chocolate.

Then paint the outer part of the paper plate any color you would like, I used blue.

Now, wait for the paper plate to dry.

After the paper plate dries, cut out a little piece of construction paper to use as the handle. Glue it to the paper plate.

Lastly, glue cotton balls onto the brown part of the paper plate, these are the marshmallows.

Now you have yourself a fun and cute little cup of hot cocoa!
