Fun and Engaging Resources to Enrich Your Homeschool

Fun and Engaging Resources to Enrich Your Homeschool

Please Share With Your Friends!

As homeschool moms, we spend hours upon hours searching the internet, libraries, and talking to others, all in the name of research. There is much more to homeschooling than meets the eye. Every year, you will see hundreds and even thousands of homeschool families attend homeschool conventions in search of the perfect curriculum that will fit their family’s needs and students’ learning styles. One of the many benefits of homeschooling becoming increasingly popular is the many excellent resources that can enrich your homeschooling. These resources go beyond the curriculum. (Take a look at the homeschool curriculum we are using for preschool, third grade, and sixth grade this year!)

Below, I have listed all the many engaging resources we have used in our eight-year homeschool journey. Some of these resources are free and include a list of our favorite YouTube channels. Others have some cost, but either they are low-cost, or I used them because they were well worth the cost.

If you are looking for ways to enrich your homeschool day or expand your curriculum, these resources can help!

YouTube Video Resources

One of the main avenues we turn to in order to find something engaging for our homeschool lessons is YouTube. I know many parents have mixed feelings about this app; however, with supervision and some research, this resource can enrich your homeschool studies.

Many fun and exciting YouTube channels take students deeper into subjects like animals, science, history, and more.

The channels listed below are among our favorite ones.

  • Operation Ouch: Meet two doctors and explore the topics of biology and medicine in a fun and engaging way.
  • Brave the Wilderness: Go on a journey and learn all about the animals of the wilderness with Coyote Peterson.
  • Family Moments: Family Devotions with Pastor Robby and his Daughter Sadie make learning about the bible as a child fun and practical.
  • Art For Kids Hub: Learn to draw with Rob and his family.
  • Nat Geo Kids: National Geographic but in simple tidbits made fun for kids.
  • BBC Studios: Explore Wildlife, Doctor Who, and more.
  • Homeschool Pop: Homeschool Pop explains topics to children in a simple way. Do your kids have questions about the Washington Monument, Helen Keller, or rocks? Check our Homeschool Pop!
  • SciShow Kids: Jessi and Squeaks explain science concepts for younger children.
  • Smithsonian Channel: Explore science, history, and nature topics in a documentary form.
  • Animal Planet: Study the animal kingdom with this enriching channel.
  • Nature on PBS: An engaging channel to explore all about nature for kids.
  • TED-Ed: TED-Ed covers various educational topics, from how fish breathe to how ancient civilizations made ice cream.
  • HIGASFY Productions: Choose from an abundance of art projects, stories, and lessons on this channel.
  • You ARE an Artist: If you love chalk pastel art, join Nana as she teaches you and your students how to draw and know it.
  • Colossal Cranium: Kids come up with the most interesting questions; see if you can answer them with Colossal Cranium. Questions like Why isn’t Pluto a planet anymore? Or who is scarier, a ghost or an alien?
  • Free School: A fantastic channel that can answer your child’s questions and delve deeper into different topics.

YouTube Songs and Music

When the kids were a bit younger, we implemented songs in our everyday homeschool to learn facts, such as ABCs or the weather. Today, we still use songs to learn facts like the states, geography, and more. Below are our favorite songs for both little ones and older kids, as well as YouTube music channels we love.

More Resources for an Engaging Homeschool

Other than YouTube, I have found several resources we have used over eight years. These cost a little money, but I have found them worth the cost.

  • Teachers Pay Teachers: An excellent resource for homeschoolers and teachers alike. If you want a specific print-off or activity to add more substance or fun to your unit study or lesson plan, check here first. It has plenty of free and low-cost options available, and many creators are other homeschool moms and teachers, so if you buy from here, you will support their business.
  • Brainpop: While YouTube has a free channel, you can pay a little extra a month to access more videos, lesson plans, and other content on its website.
  • Wondrium: The Great Course Plus: This resource costs around $20 a month. However, the program provides access to an array of video courses that delve deep into several topics. These include Art, History, Math, Science, Philosophy, the Bible, and so many more. The depth of information is incredible, although the program is set up in courses with a professor teaching. Therefore, younger students may find these videos a tad boring.
  • SQUILT: Music Appreciation- This program offers a membership; however, you can access live classes, a music calendar, and more. You also have the option to shop for digital products from the store.
  • Mystery Science is a fun way to learn about different topics through videos, activities, and lesson plans. If you sign up, you can receive a free trial until June 2025. (That’s a sweet deal if you ask me!)
  • Gather ‘Round Homeschool: We have used Gather ‘Round Homeschool for supplemental and full homeschool curriculums. On the unit base, you can find both full units and mini units. We love the mini units for studying topics such as holidays!
  • For the Love of Homeschooling: This program offers an array of unit studies to supplement your homeschool. These include zoology, bird, and nature study options. You can choose to buy the curriculum or join as a member, which includes many perks!

Subscription Boxes We Love

We also love to supplement our homeschool with subscription boxes. Here are a few that we have tried and loved over the years!

  • KiwiCo: KiwiCo is popular, and for good reason. They offer subscription boxes geared towards different age groups. The STEAM activities and crafts in these boxes are engaging and simple enough for kids to follow.
  • Little Passports: This was a great addition to our homeschooling while studying in the States.
  • MEL Science: this box was fun for hands-on science learning.
  • Ivy Kids Kits– This box provides hands-on activities for kids based on a specific book every month.
  • ToucanBox Subscription: One of my kids’ favorite subscription boxes, it includes one or two arts and crafts for your child to do each month. (Read my honest review on the ToucanBox Subscription box.)

Have you tried any of these resources? If so, let me know below your opinion! What are some resources you would add to this list?
