Moon Paper Plate Craft for Kids

This paper plate craft is by far one of my favorites that I have made. It was fairly simple to create, and my kids just thought they turned out adorable. You can even take this as far as you want and create a full solar system activity out of this craft. You can do this craft alone, as just a fun preschool or toddler activity. Or you can add in other fun crafts and activities to go along with it.

You can create your own paper plate sun, planets, and even stars! Think of the possibilities! If you decide to go with the solar system, there are so many videos you can use to go along with it and make it into a full lesson! This is one of my favorite things to do as a homeschool mom.

Another thing that my kids love is when I create a fun snack to go along with a lesson or craft. So, for the moon you can try doing the phases of the moon activity using the Oreos. Perhaps your child can “create their own moon,” using a bagel and cream cheese. There are so many ways to make this into a fun lesson.

But if you just want to stick with the moon paper plate craft for now, I’m going to tell you below how to put it all together.

Items You Need

A paper plate
Blue paint
Yellow paint
Paint brush
Paper towel
Cup of water
Black marker
String
Hole punch

How to Put Together This Moon Paper Plate Craft

The very first step when you begin this craft is to cut out your moon shape. Of course, your moon shape can be whatever you want it to be. But I think it’s extra cute with a little nose!

Next, paint your moon blue. As always you can use either side of the paper plate. However, we choose to use the inside. I think it just looks cuter.

While you are waiting for your moon to dry, cut out a star from the left-over paper plate and paint it yellow.

Once the moon has dried, draw a face onto it. Don’t forget his eye!

Now, hole punch a hole on the top of the star and on top of the moon. Use the string to tie them together. That is it! You have yourself a cute little paper plate moon.
